Understanding it
About scalp psoriasis
Scalp psoriasis usually appears as raised, well-defined red patches covered with silvery-white scales. It may extend beyond the hairline onto the forehead, neck or behind the ears, and can be itchy or sore.
Psoriasis tends to come and go in flares and is not contagious. Diagnosis and medical treatment are managed by a dermatologist; gentle, consistent scalp care can support comfort alongside that treatment.
Common causes
- An overactive immune response that speeds up skin cell turnover
- Genetics — it often runs in families
- Triggers such as stress, infections, skin injury or cold, dry weather
- Some medications

Frequently asked questions
Your questions, answered.
We do not diagnose medical conditions; when medical care is involved, we collaborate with your physician.
How is psoriasis different from dandruff?
Psoriasis usually causes thicker, silvery scales on well-defined red patches that may extend beyond the hairline, while dandruff causes finer, looser flakes.
Can psoriasis cause hair loss?
Heavy scaling and scratching can cause temporary shedding in affected areas. Hair usually regrows as the skin settles.
Is psoriasis contagious?
No. Psoriasis is not contagious.
Can CRLAB treat psoriasis?
No. Psoriasis is treated by a dermatologist. We can support scalp comfort and care alongside that treatment.
