Scalp Disorders
About scalp disorders.
The scalp is skin, and like skin elsewhere on the body it can become dry, oily, inflamed or irritated. A healthy scalp is the foundation for healthier-looking hair.

Understanding it
About scalp disorders
Scalp conditions can cause itching, flaking, redness, scaling or tenderness. Some are mild and respond well to the right routine; others are medical skin conditions that need diagnosis and treatment by a dermatologist.
Ongoing inflammation and discomfort can also affect hair quality. Looking closely at the scalp under magnification helps distinguish buildup, dryness and irritation, and guides the most appropriate care.
Common causes
- Excess oil and buildup
- A sensitive or weakened skin barrier
- Immune and inflammatory responses
- Reactions to hair products or dyes
- Yeast or bacteria that normally live on the skin
- Stress, weather and lifestyle changes

Frequently asked questions
Your questions, answered.
We do not diagnose medical conditions; when medical care is involved, we collaborate with your physician.
Is dandruff a scalp disorder?
Dandruff is common flaking of the scalp and is considered a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis. It often responds to appropriate cleansing and care.
Can scalp problems cause hair loss?
Ongoing inflammation may contribute to shedding and affect hair quality. Some conditions, such as severe folliculitis, can damage follicles, so early care matters.
Do you treat scalp disorders?
We do not diagnose medical conditions. We assess the scalp with TricoTest® and offer professional scalp care and home care, alongside your physician when medical care is involved.
